Joen Vedel (he/him) is an artist, organizer and filmmaker with a background in activism and long-term collaborative commitments. Vedel’s work encompasses critical media archives, film, installation, text, performance, curation, facilitation, and various open-ended forms of collaborations. He is the founder of NOW-TIME TV, a time-based, episodic media platform that reflects on the temporal, aesthetical and political dimensions of collective and context-specific image production. With an acute sensitivity to the relation between content, context and form, his work often deals with the liminal spaces between the personal and the political; between major and minor events, and the possibilities of grasping them while they unfold.
Vedel is educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Whitney Independent Study Program in New York and Maumaus Independent Study Program in Lisbon. In 2025, he obtained his PhD from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts.
Vedel’s work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo; O-Overgaden, Copenhagen; Kunsthal Aarhus; Solo-Shows, São Paulo and Lumiar Cité, Lisbon. Group exhibitions include Documenta 15, Kassel; Frankfurter Kunstverein; Kunsthal Charlottenborg; Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen; Riga International Biennale of Contemporary Art, and Lunds Kunsthal.
Vedel lives and works in Oslo and Copenhagen.
